Things to do in Vicksburg, Mississippi

Sign for Vicksburg National Military Park featuring a cannon in the background.

National Military Park

The biggest draw to Vicksburg is the National Military Park located at 3201 Clay Street. The park is open daily until 5pm. You can drive the 16-mile tour with or without an audio guide obtained at the Visitor Center. However, we recommend you hire a personal guide. You will meet the guide at the visitor center, and he or she will join you in your vehicle. This is the most expensive tour in Vicksburg @ $ 60 for two hours but you came all this way to see the grounds and understand the siege of Vicksburg. The guides are excellent. We get only good feedback. Tours can be arranged by calling 601.636.3827. Housed within the park is the famous Union gunboat, The Cairo at the USS Cairo Naval Museum.

The Old Court House Museum was saved in 1939 by one lady, Mrs. Eva Davis. The president of the board was finally quoted as saying, “Give her the damn keys, she’ll bring them back in 90 days.” The National Landmark is now filled with historical treasures of Warren County. You will see the towering antebellum structure when you look west from any of the Duff Green family of luxury guest homes.
